Remember Remember

Remember, remember, the fifth of November, gunpowder treason and plot. I see no reason why the gunpowder treason should ever be forgot. Guy Fawkes, Guy Fawkes, 'twas his intent to blow up the King and the Parliament. Three score barrels of powder below, Poor old England to overthrow: By God's providence he was catch'd With a dark lantern and burning match. Holloa boys, holloa boys, make the bells ring. Holloa boys, holloa boys, God save the King! Hip hip hoorah! A penny loaf to feed the Pope. A farthing o' cheese to choke him. A pint of beer to rinse it down. A faggot of sticks to burn him. Burn him in a tub of tar. Burn him like a blazing star. Burn his body from his head. Then we'll say ol' Pope is dead. Hip hip hoorah! Hip hip hoorah!

Full rhyme from which first two lines are quoted by V. I watched the opening matinee on friday. It was wonderful. I read the comic last night. I somehow find the movie more nuanced than the comic in many ways. Ah.. Hugo Weaving was amazing.. I suppose a lot of credit must go to the screen writer too.. all the characters were so... umm ... lush. V had so much depth as a character. And then you come to the issues the movie deals with; Censorship, biological weapons, state controlled media, hypocrissy in organised religion, terrorism, its glorification, Islamophobia, homophobia. Im the autocratic, fascist, neo-con in the house, in stark contrast to Jaime and Andrew's generally more socialist ideas, and oft at odds with Ernest's quasi-bougie doctrine. We've gone over most of that so the movie offered no new fodder really, except we wondered what reaction if any, the Muslim world will have to the Islamophobia depicted in the movie. Will they blindly condemn the movie for it; will they recognise that it chastises that Islamophobia; will it recieve much viewership in the Dar al-Islam. I dont now. We shall see.

I watched Highlander on saturday morning. Queen was good, better than i thought they were. I guess they were that big for a reason. But then there are others who seem to be big for no reason; Bon Jovi, excellent case in point. He seems to have cemented his superstar standing despite the fact that most of his music sounds much the same, though ill admit I liked one or two of his earlier songs. Oddly, though one might level the same accusation upon Coldplay, I feel no such antagonism toward them. Maybe in 5 years.

Anyway, I got scolded by this guy yesterday for voicing my opinion that the Ali G Show is funny. He felt it was racist against black people. This was while playing ultimate last night. Later I made some comment about Katamari being a gay game and generally expressed the opinion that it was shitty. He looked at me all weird. I guess he mighta been black. Possibly gay. But come on.. whos seen the game. Katamari Daimasu is gay. So shoot me for saying that. Ideas are bulletproof.
